- Trilogy is a first through twelth grade private school established in 1993 as a unique alternative learning environment to traditional school.
- At Trilogy personal growth is just as important as academic growth. Each student is a "trilogy", consisting of heart, mind, and will. These parts are interconnected and should all be nurtured in order for students to achieve their full potential.
- In order to help students become the best they can be we limit class size. For optimum academic success and personal growth, we limit our Younger Elementary Class to 12 students, our Older Elementary Class to 15 students, and each Middle and High School Class to 16 students.
- What also makes Trilogy unique is that we multi-age group our students. This enhances cooperation, reduces competition, and provides an environment that allows each child to do his or her personal best.
It is our belief that...- school must be a place where children feel comfortable and secure; a place where they feel safe to be themselves, explore new ideas, develop their creativity and to think out loud.
- teachers must be kind, caring and committed to the development of each individual child; the teacher's role is to be a guide in the unfolding of each child's potential.
- every child can be a successful learner if dealt with kindly, flexibly and patiently. Each child should be taught to believe in her/himself, and that the challenges that life presents can and will be met. However, children must be cautioned not to measure their successes by those of their classmates, because each child has his or her own developmental timetable.
- students cannot be pressured into learning. It is critical for the teacher to create an environment in which children develop an internal motivation to learn because they see learning as exciting, non-threatening and a means by which they can build their future.
- school should bring to the child an understanding that education is a lifelong process which springs from his or her personal interests, aptitudes and understandings.
Our Curriculum- We stress the development of higher order thinking skills. Our small class size allows us to focus on the bigger picture, that is, concepts and generalizations which help students understand the world in which they live. Instead of relying on textbook and workbook-type lessons which target factual recall, we use simulations, role-playing, manipulatives and other hands-on experiences which focus on the use of knowledge.
- We use an interdisciplinary approach: Our curriculum stresses a holistic approach to learning which integrates subject matter rather than separating it. Embodied in this approach is stress on activities which promote creative and critical thinking.
- We use an individualized approach to learning and evaluation: Our small class size allows us to focus on individual learning styles and needs, recognizing that students learn in a variety of ways. Evaluation of student work should be focused on each individual's growth. Our math classes are specially structured to allow students to self-pace. This individualized approach permits students to experience growth in a non-competitive environment.
